In the summer of 1776 and for several years hence, the River Towns played a pivotal role at the dawn of the American Revolution. George Washington and his troops spent many nights in the region, Bucks County in particular, criss-crossing the Delaware River en route to and from nearby wartime battlefields. The collection of stories that follow documents those perilous days—as a budding nation sought its independence—and the present day, as the River Towns celebrate the nation’s anniversary throughout this summer with art, music, reenactments, and (of course) fireworks.
